Utility Electrical Construction

Ambrose Power builds and maintains electrical infrastructure for investor-owned utilities, municipal utilities, cooperatives, and transmission companies. Our scope covers everything from 120V and controls, through and above 345kV transmission. We construct overhead and underground distribution systems, transmission lines, substations, switchyards, and generation tie-ins. We reconductor aging lines and restore power after storms. If it carries power, we build it.

Distribution Construction

We build and maintain distribution systems from 4kV through 35kV, plus 120V control and relay wiring. Overhead pole line construction, underground distribution, URD systems, pad-mount transformers, sectionalizers, reclosers, and capacitor banks. New construction and system upgrades. Foundation types include direct-embed, helical piles, and concrete. Concrete-encased duct bank and direct-buried underground installations. Our crews work both energized and de-energized depending on utility requirements and job scope.

Our fleet includes bucket trucks, digger derricks, reel trailers, and tensioners. We show up with the equipment and the people to get the work done.

Transmission Line Construction

We build transmission lines from 69kV through and above 345kV. Lattice towers, steel poles, wood H-frame structures, and guyed configurations. Foundation work, structure erection, conductor stringing using tension stringing methods, and reconductoring of existing lines. OPGW installation for utility communication systems.

Transmission work is not distribution scaled up. It requires different equipment, different procedures, and different qualifications. Tension stringing equipment including bull wheels, tensioners, and pullers, crawler cranes for structure setting. Our crews have the training and the hours on this equipment to do the work safely and efficiently.

Substations, Switchyards, and Generation Tie-Ins

New substation construction and upgrades from the ground up. Foundation work, steel erection, bus work, equipment setting including transformers, breakers, switches, CTs, PTs, and capacitor banks. Control building wiring, conduit and cable installation, and grounding grid construction. Switchyard construction for generation facilities and generation tie-in work connecting new sources to the grid.

We work within the utility's construction standards. RUS specifications for a cooperative, owner engineering standards for an IOU, or municipal requirements. Our crews understand the difference between setting a 25MVA substation transformer and bolting down a pad-mount on a distribution feed. Both require precision, but at different scales and with different procedures.

Storm Restoration, Trouble Calls, and 24/7 Callout

When storms hit, utilities need contractors who answer the phone and show up ready to work. We provide 24/7 storm restoration services with rapid mobilization of crews, equipment, and materials. We have mutual aid experience and deploy to storm-damaged areas on short notice to restore power and repair damaged infrastructure. Our crews are experienced in storm damage assessment, emergency pole replacement, conductor repair, and system re-energization.

Beyond storm events, we provide 24/7 trouble call and callout services. Broken poles, downed lines, equipment failures, outage response. When you need a crew in the field now, we pick up and we go. Nights, weekends, holidays. We stay until the work is done.
