Electrical Testing and Commissioning

NETA-certified electrical testing, commissioning, and maintenance through Ambrose Power Field Services. Protective relay testing and calibration, circuit breaker testing, power transformer testing, cable testing and fault location, and full substation commissioning and start-up. Our technicians test and commission the same types of systems our construction crews build. One company that can take a project from bare ground through energization.

Protective Relay Testing and Commissioning

Protective relay testing, calibration, and programming across all major manufacturer platforms. SEL, GE, ABB/Hitachi, Schweitzer, and others. Acceptance testing on new installations and routine maintenance testing on existing systems. Functional trip testing, end-to-end testing, and coordination verification.

Our technicians read AC/DC schematics, connection diagrams, and relay settings documents. They verify every CT and PT circuit, every trip path, and every communication link before the system is energized. Relay coordination is verified against the engineer's coordination study.

Power Apparatus Testing

Circuit breaker testing including contact resistance, timing, travel analysis, insulation resistance, and SF6 gas analysis. Power transformer testing including turns ratio, winding resistance, insulation power factor, oil dielectric, dissolved gas analysis, and excitation current. Current and potential transformer verification.

Cable testing from medium voltage through high voltage. Hipot, VLF, tan delta, partial discharge, and cable fault location. We test what our construction crews install and we test existing systems for maintenance programs.

Substation Commissioning and Start-Up

Full substation commissioning from equipment testing through energization. We develop commissioning plans, execute test procedures, document results, and coordinate with the utility or system operator for energization. New substations, generation interconnections, and industrial facility switchgear.

Our construction team builds the substation. Our Field Services team tests and commissions it. The client deals with one company from foundation to first energization. No finger-pointing between the contractor and the testing firm.
