Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Electrical Construction

Electrical construction for utility-scale and commercial BESS facilities. We install MV collection systems, power conversion system (PCS) connections, step-up transformers, switchgear, grounding, and site electrical that connect battery systems to the grid or to the facility. We do not install the batteries or program the battery management system. We build the electrical infrastructure around them.

MV Collection and Interconnection

MV cable (typically 34.5kV) from PCS units to step-up transformers and point-of-interconnection switchgear. Cable routing, termination, grounding, and testing. The AC collection system ties the individual battery enclosures into a unified electrical system that feeds the grid or the facility.

We coordinate with the battery OEM and the EPC to define clear scope boundaries. Our work starts at the PCS output terminals and extends through the collection system to the interconnection point. Every cable pulled, terminated, and tested to specification.

Balance of Plant Electrical

Everything outside the battery container. Site lighting, grounding grids, HVAC power feeds for thermal management systems, fire suppression power, SCADA and communication wiring, and auxiliary power distribution. The balance-of-plant electrical makes the facility operate as a complete system.

Grounding is critical on BESS sites. We install grounding grids, equipment grounding conductors, and bonding systems per the engineer's design and IEEE 80 (Guide for Safety in AC Substation Grounding). Proper grounding protects equipment and personnel.

Substation and Grid Tie-In

Interconnection substation construction for BESS facilities. Step-up transformers, protective relaying installation, MV and HV switchgear, and generation tie-in to utility infrastructure. This is the same substation construction scope we perform on utility projects.

We coordinate with the utility and the transmission owner on interconnection requirements. Revenue metering, protective relay settings coordination, SCADA communication. We install the physical infrastructure. The utility and the engineer handle the settings and the studies.

Ambrose Power Field Services

Testing and Commissioning

Ambrose Power Field Services provides NETA-certified testing and commissioning for BESS electrical infrastructure. PCS cable testing, transformer acceptance testing, protective relay commissioning, and ground resistance verification. Our technicians test the same systems our construction crews install.
